The Criminal Investigation Bureau warns about recent scams involving fraudulent text messages pretending to be from 'Taiwan Water Corporation' urging payment of overdue water bills, resulting in a victim being swindled of NT$60,000. Similar phishing scams are also imitating Taiwan Power Company for unpaid electricity bills. Both companies have adopted the '111 short code text message' policy to send official messages, emphasizing that any suspicious texts without the '111' code should be verified. If in doubt, individuals are advised to contact the water or power company directly to confirm the authenticity of the message.
