Directed by Pawo, the film 'No Guns in Bhutan' uses satire to depict the challenges faced by the Bhutanese people during the process of democratization. Surprisingly, even though it is a comedy, many locals were deeply moved and shed tears after watching the movie, including the Prime Minister and Queen. The film's director, Pawo, realized that the locals resonated with the film because they felt they had lost some innocence amid the pursuit of democracy and modernization. The film also sheds light on the Bhutanese perspective on storytelling and birthdays, as many Bhutanese people don't know their exact birthdates, leading to the tradition of using January 1st as a default birthday when needed.
