The first presidential debate of the 2024 U.S. election is anticipated to focus on two key issues - inflation and immigration. Under Biden's administration, approximately seven million immigrants have entered the U.S. through non-regular channels, with over two million just last year, surpassing the previous fifteen years. Biden's immigration policy has subtly adjusted after three years of open border implementation, aiming to secure the Democratic base, especially in swing states like Arizona and Nevada, where undocumented immigrants form a significant population. Even though Biden's policies attract some immigrants, they have faced challenges, leading to strategic adjustments like stricter asylum application policies and allowing half a million immigrants in the U.S. to attain permanent residency.
