A report from the Changing Markets Foundation revealed that major meat and dairy companies are not adequately addressing the environmental impact of their livestock, hindering global climate efforts. Despite some companies setting net-zero targets, none meet UN standards, with the industry prioritizing advertising over climate solutions and lobbying against regulations. Livestock emissions, mainly methane, contribute significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions, with the analyzed companies emitting more than Japan annually. While some companies are implementing solutions like methane-suppressing feed additives, the industry as a whole lacks integrity in its net-zero targets and relies heavily on offsets and vague regenerative farming practices according to the report.
