Bird Flu Affects Milk Production in Texas and Kansas

Reported 8 months ago

The bird flu virus has started impacting US milk production, particularly in Texas and Kansas, where it was first detected in dairy cattle earlier this year. Output in these states declined in March and April compared to the usual seasonal increase, indicating the influence of the flu outbreak. Despite the virus spreading, its overall effect on milk production is expected to be limited as dairy cows can recover from the illness. Milk futures have risen by approximately 27% since the initial outbreak, with cheese-making milk prices also benefiting from tight global supplies.
