Bizarre 'Snakehead Fish' Invading the U.S., Authorities Advise: Must Be Eliminated

Reported 11 months ago

Missouri, U.S. has recently discovered the 'northern snakehead fish' species, also known as 'Channa argus,' which has a body resembling a fish but covered with snake-like scales and is able to crawl on land. The Missouri Department of Conservation strongly recommends immediate elimination instead of release if captured, to avoid threats to the local ecology. These carnivorous fish can breathe air and survive without oxygen in water, even on land for several days, moving like snakes. Reports suggest multiple captures of these invasive fish in Missouri, originating from an accidental release from a commercial fish farm in Arkansas in 2008, prompting authorities to advise immediate eradication upon capture.
