A recent analysis by the Associated Press and CNHI News has revealed that Black Americans are significantly underrepresented in residential care communities, such as assisted living facilities, in the United States. While nearly half of Americans over 65 will require some form of long-term care, Black Americans are less likely to utilize these community living settings and more likely to reside in nursing homes. Factors contributing to this disparity include financial barriers, cultural preferences, insurance coverage, and the physical location of residential care communities, highlighting the complex challenges faced by older Black Americans in accessing appropriate care.
