Bloomberg: US Considers Expanding Restrictions on China Access to AI Chips

Reported 7 months ago

According to a report by Bloomberg on June 11, 2024, the US is considering expanding restrictions on China's access to AI chips, particularly targeting the new hardware that has just entered the market. The proposed measures include limiting China's use of 'Gate-All-Around' (GAA) transistors, an advanced chip architecture that enhances chip performance and reduces power consumption. Companies like Nvidia, Intel, AMD, as well as foundries like TSMC and Samsung are competing to start mass-producing GAA semiconductors next year. The scope of restrictions on China by the US is still under discussion, with no specific timeline for a final decision yet.
