Blue Camp Demands Review of Nuclear Extension, Green Camp Criticizes Concerns of 'Not Undermining Taiwan'

Reported 11 months ago

During an interpellation in the Legislative Yuan, Minister of Economic Affairs, Ke Jung-fu, proposed extending the operation of Nuclear Reactors 2 and 3 for 20 more years without using government subsidies, sparking debate. Kuomintang legislators requested to review the relevant proposals for extending nuclear plants. Education and Culture Committee convenor Lin Yi-chin expressed concerns over the issue, stating that while it's within their rights to review, they must consider the implications of nuclear waste and the poor proposals made. If Kuomintang legislators are eager to end their political careers, they could exit the political stage without undermining Taiwan. Economic Affairs Minister Ke reiterated a non-nuclear homeland stance, while pointing out the lack of willingness among regional heads to store nuclear waste. This comes amidst skepticism over the KMT legislators' core proposals regarding nuclear extension and reopening, with Lin warning against such actions undermining public opinion and future generations, and urging them to avoid antagonizing Taiwan. If Kuomintang legislators persist in pushing for nuclear extension and reopening laws, Lin asserts she will be the first to oppose.
