On June 10, 2024, the Toronto Blue Jays won against the Oakland Athletics with a score of 6-4, but Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish caused a rare incident by accidentally interfering with the first baseman, resulting in his teammate being called out. Darvish ran in the wrong direction to avoid a fly ball, colliding with the Athletics' player. The incident occurred due to the open design of the Oakland Coliseum which lacks barriers in the resting area, causing players to sit near the wall on the bench. Darvish expressed embarrassment and humorously stated that he wished there was a hole to hide in after the mishap.
