During a session in the Legislative Yuan on June 17, 2024, Blue lawmaker Weng Xiaoling presented a 'Qiu Haitang map,' urging the Ministry of National Defense not to forget that the mainland is part of the Republic of China's territory and criticizing President Lai Ching-te as a 'traitor.' Democratic Progressive Party lawmaker Lin Junxian criticized Weng's statement for not only suggesting 'retaking the mainland' but potentially declaring war on more than ten neighboring countries. Lin also pointed out historical contexts regarding the 'Qiu Haitang' issue and criticized Weng's insistence on recognizing it as part of Taiwan's territory. Weng's actions were deemed unconstitutional and uninformed by Lin, who noted the complexities of the historical and territorial disputes involved.
