Yung Feng-tai, the Premier of the Executive Yuan, and Chen Tai-yuan, the Minister of Health and Welfare, were questioned by Kuomintang lawmaker Lo Ting-wei about the recent import of intravenous fluids without a legal basis, leading to a shortage of medical intravenous solutions in Taiwan. The Food and Drug Administration of the Department of Health today stated that 240,000 bags of saline solution will be imported this week to alleviate the shortage. Taiwan currently faces a national shortage of intravenous fluids, especially saline solution, with concerns about whether the production can be restored by October. Apart from imports, six domestic manufacturers are increasing production, aiming to enhance the capacity to ensure a stable supply by August. Lo Ting-wei raised questions on the legality of the import process and the lack of approval letters, but received no clear responses from Su or Chen.
