Reported about 1 year ago
16th June 2024, a 19-year-old driver surnamed Xie crashed his BMW into a rest area on National Highway No. 1. The accident involved hitting a cement guardrail at the entrance and then crashing into several parked cars, resulting in damage to 7 vehicles and injuries to 3 people. Footage from the car's dashboard camera shows the moment of impact, with the car's windshield shattered but the wipers still moving. Xie, visibly distressed, was wearing flip-flops and a floral shirt and refused medical treatment despite sustaining minor injuries. The authorities are investigating the incident, suspecting that Xie caused the accident due to the cruise control feature of the car's assistive driving system.
