Boeing recently reached a guilty plea agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice following two fatal crashes of Boeing 737 Max aircraft that resulted in 346 deaths. The company will have to pay an additional $240 million in fines as part of the agreement, with no exemption for personnel responsible for the errors. Boeing was charged for misconduct prior to the crashes, including concealing flight control software in older 737 planes and failing to inform pilots about necessary training. The agreement also requires Boeing to invest at least $450 million in flight safety and meet with families of the victims, while senior executives will not be covered by the plea agreement.
