Former Bolivian Army Commander-in-Chief Juan Jose Zuniga was arrested following a failed military coup on June 26th. The country's Attorney General ordered a six-month pretrial detention for Zuniga, who is accused of involvement in terrorism and armed insurgency. This unprecedented move was supported by the Defense and Interior Ministries. Zuniga led troops to storm the presidential palace in La Paz, but retreated after President Arce declared his authority as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The situation has led to public support for Arce's government and the restoration of order by the police, resulting in the arrest of Zuniga and others involved in the coup attempt.
