After Hualien's post-earthquake recovery, the first long weekend was met with a slow return of visitors, with both local and Japanese expatriates gathering to support the city through tourism. Vice President Hsu Mei-chin made a special appearance as a mysterious guest to accompany the group, expressing gratitude for their support. While the tourist attractions were not as crowded as before, there were signs of recovery with an increase in visitors, including about 1500 people visiting the ocean park on the first day of the long weekend. Nearby Taitung was also impacted by the earthquake, with a lower hotel booking rate of only 30%, but visitors praised the good weather and beautiful scenery of the region.
