Reported 11 months ago

The owner of two Boston-area pizza shops was found guilty of forced labor for exploiting employees living in the country illegally to work long hours through physical violence and threats of deportation. Stavros Papantoniadis monitored workers with surveillance cameras, insulted and harassed them, and faces sentencing after being convicted of three counts of forced labor and three counts of attempted forced labor, each carrying a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison. Prosecutors highlighted instances where Papantoniadis chased down a worker who tried to leave and choked another worker who planned to resign, emphasizing a message against employee exploitation through fear and intimidation.
