Brazil Outshines US in Biofuel Industry with Beef Fat Exports

Reported 7 months ago

Brazil is taking advantage of the US biofuels boom by increasing exports of Brazilian cattle tallow, a form of waste fat used in renewable fuels, leading to a 377% surge in US purchases in the first four months of 2024. US fuel producers like Diamond Green Diesel LLC and Marathon Petroleum Corp. are opting for cheaper raw materials from abroad to improve their margins. This influx of Brazilian imports is challenging American farmers and agriculture companies relying on crop-based green diesel feedstocks, risking profit decline and expansion setbacks.
