Brazil’s Sugar Harvest Expected to Improve Despite Slow Start

Reported 8 months ago

The top executive of trader Copersucar SA predicts that sugar production in Brazil, the world's leading supplier, will strengthen in the coming months after a slower-than-expected start to the season. Higher sugar cane acreage and increased use of cane juice are expected to boost production, with recent harvest issues in Brazil's Center-South region attributed to one-off problems. Despite record sugar production last season driving down prices, Copersucar reported strong results with affiliated mills processing a record 110 million tons of cane, leading to increased sales of sugar and ethanol.
