During equipment maintenance at Kaohsiung’s Lian Cheng Hua Science Chemical Plant, a high temperature steam containing phthalic anhydride leaked from a flange, causing 4 employees to suffer burn injuries and requiring hospitalization. The Kaohsiung City Department of Labor arrived at the scene upon receiving the report, immediately ordering a work stoppage and issuing a fine of NT$300,000 for violating occupational safety and health laws. The incident has been contained, with no further risks identified. The Environmental Protection Bureau will fine the chemical plant NT$100 to 500 million for the leakage and NT$10 to 500 million for improper management leading to odor pollution, urging stricter supervision to prevent such incidents in the future.
