On June 21, 2024, at around 4:50 p.m., due to heavy rain in Hualien, Taiwan, a rockslide inside the Chingshu Tunnel resulted in the Taiwan Railways 229 Taroko Express hitting rocks, leading to the driver's fracture and injuries to 6 passengers. Approximately 500 passengers had to walk through muddy conditions, carrying their luggage, to exit the tunnel and board a connecting train, facing hardships and dangers. An elderly person carrying a baby and a large bag nearly tripped. The Central Meteorological Bureau had issued a heavy rain advisory for 12 counties and cities in Taiwan, warning of possible landslides in mountainous areas.
