An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 struck near the coast of Hualien at 8:40 am today, with the epicenter located 17.7 km north-northeast of the Hualien County Government. The shallow earthquake affected Hualien County the most with an intensity of 4, while Yilan County experienced intensities of 2 and 1, and Taichung City had an intensity of 1. The tremor was felt in 4 counties and cities.
