Hualien County independent councilor Lin Yuanfu accused the police chief of Jia'an Substation of having an inappropriate relationship with his wife, who is also the chairperson of Xincheng Township. The wife, Chen Xiuling, responded on Facebook saying her heart is broken by the viciousness of people, and emphasized that she has been physically abused for over a decade. Lin also revealed in a council meeting that his wife stabbed him with a knife, resulting in a serious injury that required emergency surgery. The case is now in the hands of the judiciary. Lin urged against violence and emphasized the need for legal action in cases of misconduct.
