On July 1, 2024, at around 1:00 pm, an approximately 57-year-old man drowned at QiXingTan in Hualien. Coastguards pulled him ashore and sent him to the hospital, but he had no signs of life upon arrival, ultimately declared dead. The detailed cause of the incident is pending further investigation. Coastguards performed CPR before the man arrived at the hospital. The incident occurred when security personnel found a person drowning in front of BeiPu pier around 1:10 pm and immediately performed first aid while notifying the fire department to dispatch an ambulance. Initially thought to be an angler falling into the sea, only a personal bag was found at the scene, with no fishing gear present.
