On June 14, 2024, at around 7:27 am, a car caught fire on the southbound section of National Freeway No. 1 at 263.9 kilometers in Chiayi. The vehicle, carrying four individuals, including the driver, suddenly caught fire for unknown reasons. The occupants quickly evacuated and waited for rescue beyond the guardrail. The Chiayi City Fire Department extinguished the flames before any casualties occurred. The cause of the fire is under investigation. After the fire was put out, only the charred skeleton of the vehicle remained.
