Reported about 1 year ago

On July 4, 2024, at 6:18 am, the New Taipei District Prosecutor's Office was investigating a green energy photovoltaic scam case. This morning, over a hundred investigation officers from the New Taipei City Investigation Bureau conducted searches spanning more than 40 locations, including the office and residence of Yunlin County Council Speaker Huang Kai and around 20 individuals associated with green energy businesses. They were all detained and taken back to the New Taipei City Investigation Bureau for questioning. The scam involved regulations relating to green energy photovoltaic businesses applying for land use in Yunlin County, where permits were required from local government offices before seeking approval from the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Bureau of Energy, leading to potential benefits for those involved. Earlier, the task force had already searched and detained former village chiefs and their family members. One individual was suspected of extorting green energy companies, leading to an arrest warrant approval, while another was released on bail. This incident is part of a series of recent events including the detainment of 103 Taiwanese individuals in Bali, Indonesia, water pipe breakage in New Taipei City, and a fatal incident on the Beiyi Expressway.
