On June 24, 2024, at 4:00 a.m., local time, firefighters in South Korea's Gyeonggi Province received a report of a fire at a lithium battery factory in Hwaseong City. The fire quickly spread throughout the 3-story concrete building due to the large quantity of lithium batteries stored inside. After extinguishing the fire, over 20 bodies were discovered on site, with 23 believed to have been trapped and unable to escape. Many of the victims were foreign workers, and the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
