On July 18th, Taoyuan City Councilor Zhang Zhaoliang, said to be connected to former Taoyuan mayor Zheng Wen-Can, was detained by prosecutors after a search in relation to alleged bribery and illegal constructions. Zhang, along with 5 others, underwent questioning, with Zhang being detained and 3 others released on bail. The case involves suspected influence peddling for an illegal building project. The investigation, based on a whistleblower's tip, revolves around Zhang's alleged efforts to prevent the unauthorized building from being reported and demolished, aiming to lease the space to a chain convenience store after completion.
