Japanese manga artist Satoshi Kurata's creation 'Yuri Danshi' has gained popularity among fans since June 8, 2024, breaking out of the traditional 'female friendship' framework found in yuri manga. Observing the yuri culture, critic Yang Shuangzi notes that the audience for yuri works extends beyond females to include male readers. The term 'yuri' originally emerged in the 1970s in Japan among male homosexual magazines and is now commonly used to represent 'female-female relationships' in various forms of love, family bonds, and friendship. Increasingly in recent years, there has been a notable rise in male readers, referred to as 'Yuri Danshi,' who long for love or desire to relate to another female figure, transcending the traditional heterosexual norms.
