Bring Your Own Bag to Market, 47 Markets in Taiwan Reduce Plastic Use

Reported about 1 year ago

On July 2, 2024, the Environmental Protection Administration in Taiwan launched a campaign in 47 markets nationwide to reduce plastic usage by encouraging people to bring their own eco-friendly bags for shopping. The goal is to reduce around 20% or 65 million plastic shopping bags, aiming to conserve natural resources. Although the initiative has not yet covered night markets with high plastic bag usage, it promotes the concept of reducing plastic waste by starting from major markets across the country. Various measures such as bringing eco-friendly bags, combining vegetables and fruits in one bag, and avoiding unnecessary bags per stall are being promoted to instill environmental conservation practices. The administration plans to continue with market-based initiatives and provide incentives to further reduce plastic usage.
