Bulgaria to Prosecute Fugitive Involved in Major Crypto Fraud Scheme

Reported 9 months ago

Bulgaria's chief prosecutor announced that Bulgaria will press charges against Ruja Ignatova in absentia for her involvement in one of the largest cryptocurrency fraud schemes. Ignatova, the founder of OneCoin, has been evading authorities since 2017. The U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria also offered a $5 million reward for information leading to her arrest. The scheme, which tricked people into investing in a fraudulent cryptocurrency, is estimated to have scammed over $4 billion from millions of victims within the first two years. Last year, Karl Sebastian Greenwood, a co-founder of OneCoin, was sentenced to 20 years in a U.S. prison.
