ByteDance confirms plans to lay off staff at its Indonesian unit following a deal where it acquired a local e-commerce firm and merged it with TikTok operations. The company did not disclose the exact number of affected employees, but it was reported that around 450 jobs would be cut. The move comes after ByteDance acquired a majority stake in Tokopedia in January, with a spokesperson stating that the layoffs are necessary to align teams and strengthen the organization amid the integration. Tokopedia is a prominent e-commerce platform in Indonesia.
