Calgary, the hub of Canada's oil and gas industry, declared a state of emergency after discovering repairs on a major broken water main will take longer than expected. A water feeder main break affecting the water supply will take three to five weeks longer to repair than initially anticipated. The city enacted a Municipal Emergency Plan and residents were advised on water usage restrictions. Calgary has seen a population boom post-pandemic due to its lower cost of living compared to cities like Vancouver and Toronto.
