California has fined Amazon a total of $5.9 million for violating the Warehouse Quota Law at two warehouses in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The law requires providing written notice of quotas to employees, including the number of tasks per hour. Amazon was fined $1.2 million at one warehouse and $4.7 million at another. The company has appealed the citations, stating they do not have fixed quotas and that individual performance is evaluated over time. The Labor Commissioner emphasized the importance of preventing undisclosed quotas to protect workers from increased pressure and potential injuries.
