Campaign to Recall Keelung Mayor Takes a Surprising Turn as Delivery Riders Distribute Flyers Through Food Delivery Services; UberEats Responds

Reported 7 months ago

Regarding the movement to recall Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang, the official statement from Uber Eats is that this action was decided and chosen by delivery riders themselves. The 'Shanhai Citizen Demolition Campaign' group, pushing for the recall of Mayor Xie, recently called on UberEats and Foodpanda delivery riders to cooperate by placing recall flyers in their delivery boxes, sparking discussions. UberEats responded by emphasizing that this action was decided by the delivery riders themselves, not reflecting the company's stance. The group later revealed on Facebook that due to undisclosed pressures preventing them from renting any billboards, they enlisted delivery riders to place recall flyers in their boxes in hopes of increasing the second stage of petition signatures. UberEats reiterated their response, stating that this was a decision made by the delivery riders themselves and does not represent the company's stance. The group's action also highlighted the regulations requiring delivery partners to display the brand name on the delivery box during their service in compliance with Taipei's regulations for delivery platforms, while partners in other areas can choose the marking on the thermal bags, as long as they meet food safety standards like maintaining hot-cold separations.
