During a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Committee, US Deputy Secretary of State Campbell stated that Beijing has subtly conveyed its anxiety in interactions with Washington following Putin's signing of a defense treaty with Pyongyang last week. Campbell suggested that China is likely concerned about North Korea being encouraged to take provocative steps, potentially triggering a crisis in Northeast Asia. The US believes that Russia is considering providing greater support to North Korea, possibly in areas related to nuclear or missile programs, despite UN sanctions on Pyongyang. Campbell also highlighted divisions between China and Russia regarding North Korea, as Beijing has kept some distance from Kim Jong-un and expressed minimal statements regarding Putin's visit to Pyongyang.
