Can Love Seats Be Occupied? Taiwan Railway's Local Trains Changed to 'Priority Seats' 8 Years Ago Reveals Reason

Reported 12 months ago

A netizen discovered that Taiwan Railway's 'Love Seats' were changed to 'Priority Seats'. Amidst the controversy surrounding public transport 'Love Seats,' some believe that everyone is entitled to sit there, not just limited to the elderly, weak, women, and children, suggesting that the seat-giving culture should have vanished earlier. The Department of Social and Family Affairs under the Ministry of Health and Welfare has announced that the 'Love Seat' will be renamed 'Priority Seat' for the 'actual needy.' The issue dates back to 2016 when Taiwan Railway's local trains were already implementing the change to 'Priority Seats.' The seats were renamed due to incidents where a blind student was forced to give up a 'Love Seat.' While the name was altered to 'Priority Seat,' 'Love Seat' is still visible but smaller in size, with additional criteria like 'people with internal organ disabilities.'
