Recently, the issue of opening pet shops in residential areas has sparked discussions. Experts point out that the regulations on land use zoning by local governments vary, for example, in Taipei City, the restrictions on opening a pet shop for selling pet supplies are relatively small; however, if it involves pet grooming or boarding services, consent from residents on the upper and both sides in the third type of residential area is required. As the pet industry continues to thrive, the trend of using the ground floor of residential buildings as commercial spaces like pet shops has raised controversies. Business operators are advised by Taiwan Realty Trends Center CEO Zhang Xulan to be cautious in selecting locations by considering three types of situations: zoning compliance, avoiding illegal structures or unregistered properties, and adherence to community regulations.
