Can you open a bank account with bad credit?

Reported 7 months ago

Having bad credit may not prevent you from opening a bank account as banks usually do not check your credit score but may review your ChexSystems report for negative banking activity. If denied an account, you can request a copy of your ChexSystems report, fix any errors, or consider a second-chance account with higher fees and restrictions. Bad credit, affecting 25% of Americans, might pose challenges for financial tasks but usually doesn't hinder opening a bank account.
