A Canadian resident of China, Klaus Pflugbeil, pleaded guilty in New York federal court to stealing Tesla's battery manufacturing trade secrets and conspiring to sell them to undercover government agents. Pflugbeil faces up to 10 years in prison for plotting with business partner Yilong Shao to sell the secrets to FBI agents posing as Long Island businesspeople. Pflugbeil and Shao built their EV battery business on trade secrets from a U.S.-based electric vehicle company, likely Tesla, as Pflugbeil was later employed by Shao's business and matched the description of Tesla's acquisition of Canadian company Hibar.
