The Ministry of Health and Welfare reported that cancer remains the top cause of death in Taiwan for 42 consecutive years, claiming 53,126 lives in 2023, equivalent to one death every 9 minutes and 53 seconds. The death clock for cancer accelerated by 14 seconds compared to 2022. Lung cancer has maintained its ranking as the leading cause for 20 years, with pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, and prostate cancer all seeing a rise in rankings over the past decade, linked to common risk factors such as obesity.
