Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare announced the top 10 causes of death for the past year, with a decrease in total deaths largely attributed to a drop in COVID-19 fatalities. Cancer remains the leading cause of death for 42 consecutive years, claiming over 53,000 lives annually. Notably, despite Taiwan's aging population, overall death numbers decreased from the previous year. Lung cancer, liver cancer, and colon cancer remain the top three leading causes of death. Efforts to promote early cancer screenings are emphasized to reduce mortality risks. Liver cancer deaths, however, have shown a significant decline, attributed to enhanced screenings and healthcare initiatives.
