At the Cannes Film Festival, Chinese director Guan Hu's film "Black Dog" won the Un Certain Regard Award, blending western, film noir, and comedy genres with a focus on a lovable mutt. The jury praised the film for its poetry, imagination, and direction, with lead actor Eddie Peng expressing hope for the improvement of Chinese cinema. Other winners included French director Boris Lojkine's "The Story of Souleymane" and Zambian-British helmer Rungano Nyoni for her film "On Becoming a Guinea Fowl." Additionally, a special Youth Prize was awarded to French director Louise Courvoisier's "Holy Cow!" and a special mention was given to Saudi director Tawfik Alzaidi's "Norah."
