A report on June 24, 2024, highlighted that car seat cushions contain flame retardants that may lead to cancer, especially due to their conversion into gas and release into the car's air, with pollution levels possibly increasing fivefold in summer heat. Advice from toxicologists includes opening windows and using air conditioning with outside circulation before driving to reduce harmful substance concentrations. A recent study found that 99% of the tested car air samples in the US contained TCIPP flame retardants, potentially hazardous for drivers, especially during long commutes.
