In Taipei, on June 30, 2024, the Department of Environment will convene the fourth Carbon Fee Rate Review Committee on the 5th. An anonymous committee member suggested that since the Department plans to gradually increase the rate, they should start with a minimum of 100 yuan per ton, which would not only avoid concerns about green inflation, but also carry symbolic significance. The focus is on the debate between the industry's expected rate of 100 yuan per ton, the Department's initial estimate of 300 yuan, and the environmental group's expectation of 500 yuan. The committee member mentioned that the carbon fee rate is not a fixed amount for collection and will be gradually increased in the future. The aim is to start the process quickly and move Taiwan into a carbon pricing era.
