In response to the 2050 net zero carbon emissions goal and carbon tariffs imposed by the EU and other countries, Taiwan is set to implement a carbon pricing system where carbon fees will be collected from major emitters. Environmental Minister Chang Chih-ming stated that the carbon fee system is expected to be rolled out in the second half of the year, with the possibility of transitioning to carbon trading in three to four years with prices ranging from one to two thousand yuan per ton. He also mentioned the potential use of new nuclear technologies while emphasizing the commitment to avoid 'green inflation' in Taiwan society due to the imposition of carbon fees on industries like electricity and cement. The focus now is on completing the carbon fee system, which can lead to assessing the feasibility of total control measures in the next two years and exploring the dual-track system in the following years.
