On June 20, 2024, at 1:18 AM, a sought-after drunk driver without headlights attempted to escape on the national freeway, but ended up injuring himself in a self-crash at the ramp, and then received fines totaling 200,000 NTD. The driver, a 66-year-old man surnamed Zhang from Kaohsiung, refused to cooperate with the police after being flagged for not using headlights and driving erratically, speeding onto the freeway, only to crash and get apprehended. Zhang was found to be a wanted criminal, and due to his refusal for breathalyzer testing and reckless driving, he was issued six fines totaling 200,000 NTD for public endangerment and other traffic violations.
