CCP Issues Disciplinary Measures Against Taiwan Independence! Just Staying Away from Mainland China Enough? Guo Zhengliang: Too Simplistic

Reported 8 months ago

On June 23, 2024, the Chinese mainland People's Court released 22 provisions regarding punishing 'Taiwan independence' individuals for crimes of splitting the country; the most severe punishment being the death penalty. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council responded that Beijing has no jurisdiction over Taiwan. Former legislator Guo Zhengliang pointed out that out of the 65 countries that have signed judicial assistance treaties with China, many friendly countries might be in a gray area regarding 'Taiwan independence' extradition. Merely avoiding mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau is not a simple solution. Guo emphasized that although the CCP's joint announcement with the judiciary is rare, these opinions may eventually become 'laws', with potential new lists of names. Guo cautioned that the issues are not to be taken lightly as they may involve uncertain circumstances.
