The People's Republic of China unilaterally announced the punishment for Taiwan independence and stated that those inciting the split of the country could face the death penalty. In response, Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun emphasized that mainland China has no jurisdiction over Taiwan and urged both sides to exercise restraint and opt for dialogue instead of confrontation to avoid escalating hostilities. The escalating animosity between the two sides is highlighted by China listing four instances of the offense of splitting the country, with the most severe penalty being death, as emphasized by China's Ministry of Public Security. Zhu stressed that China has no legal jurisdiction over Taiwan and criticized President Lai Ching-te's recent legislative actions as provocative and confrontational instead of dialogic.
