A dispute over project payment escalated when a 60-year-old cement foreman, owed over a million dollars, brought gasoline to a construction company in New Taipei City on June 17. He threatened to set the office on fire if he was not paid, leading to a prompt arrest by the Sanxia Police Substation on charges of intimidation and endangerment. The foreman claimed the company owed him $1.62 million, but they failed to pay despite negotiations. He was particularly agitated by the extravagant act of the company keeping a $600,000 red dragon and resorted to extreme measures. The police defused the situation by recommending a settlement agreement to prevent further escalation.
